Reclaim Australia, Melton Demonstration - 22/11/15

Sunday the 22/11/15 saw Reclaim Australia supporters converge upon Melton’s City Council Buildings to protest a local debate involving a special needs school where the funding may be dropped to invest in a new Islamic School in the suburbs outskirts. The Rally Coincided with a number of other Anti-Islam, Reclaim Australia Rally’s across the nation, throughout the day each side remainded relatively well behaved. Although, a number of fights broke out but were quickly diffused by Police. 



Crowd rallies for Somali refugee seeking abortion - 19/10/2015

Supporters of a Somalian refugee, known as Abyan, protested outside the Department of Immigration in Melbourne on October 19, 2015 after she was sent back to Nauru last week.
The woman, who was allegedly raped, was flown to Australia to have an abortion, but was returned to Nauru by a chartered jet on Friday, having reportedly been denied an abortion.
However, Australian Minister of Immigration and Border Protection Peter Dutton has indicated that the refugee may be flown back to Australia, should she request to be.


Anti mosque protest - Bendigo 10/10/15

Saturday, 10/10/15 saw the United Patriots Front converge once again upon Bendigo, the demonstration coincided with a string of anti islamic rally’s held world wide but the UPF’s primary objective was to progress their own campaign against a mosque being built within Bendigo’s community. A counter rally contingent organised by the Bendigo Action Coalition aimed to block the UPF and supporting nationalists, although were unable to successfully achieve this. 



Taxi strike - 10/9/2015

Hundreds of cabbies walked off the job today protesting against the illegal ride share service, UberX. Over four hundred taxi drivers congregated at Parliement House in Melbourne, blocking off Spring street from 10am with their taxi’s before marching through the CBD. 


Light the Dark Melbourne: Australia says Welcome.

Treasury Gardens in Melbourne was illuminated by candles on the 8/9/2015 as thousands of individuals gathered to mourn asylum seekers who’ve lost their lives whilst fleeing persecution and their war stricken countries. The ‘Light the Dark’ gathering hosted by Getup! coincided with events across Australian capital cities and worldwide alike, triggered by graphic images circulating the internet of refugees bodies washing up upon a Turkish beach after their boat had capsized. Highlighting the Australian government’s disregard for the world’s most venerable and desperate people.

On Thursday, 7/9/2015 the photographs went viral on social and mainstream media grabbing world wide attention. In particular, an image of a little boy named Aylan Kurdi, lying face down in the sand with waves lapping around his body shocked millions within hours. An estimated 22,000 deaths have occurred in the Mediteranian sea between 2000 and 2015, where asylum seekers have taken similar journey’s fleeing their middle eastern and north African homelands, approximately fifteen million poeple have been displaced in 2015 alone adding to the sixty million current refugee’s gobally, creating the largest global refugee crisis since the second world war. 



 


United Patriots Front Bendigo Rally - 29/8/2015

On Saturday the 29th of August, Bendigo saw the United Patriots front (UPF) converged on their Town Hall assisting local lobby group oppose the construction of a Islamic Mosque planned to be constructed. An estimated four hundred local residents, people from the wider Bendigo community and supporters of the UPF came together to show the Bendigo council they do not want the mosque which is costing upwards of $6 million dollars and housing 347 muslims to go forward. 

 Right wing group UPF was counter protested by leftists groups No Room for Racism and the Socialists Alliance. Victorian Police and special forces were heavily present in the North western Victorian town which saw part of the city centre shut down on friday afternoon in preparation for the Rally. Pepper spray was deployed by officers to contain small isolated bursts of violence that occurred between opposing groups. No arrests we made and only two people were treated by medics during the event.
